Feeling a bit Meh!

Not my normal computer related post, but hey 😐

As some of you may know, together with my wife Michelle, we had a rescue German Shepherd called Cela - her name was in honour of Michelle's Dad Alec who passed away 14 years ago, and when we were on the way to go and collect Cela (or Fanta as she was named then) it was on an anniversary of his passing, and the name just came to Michelle as it's Alec backwards.

Well, just short of 9 years later, and I'm sad to say that Cela has passed over Rainbow Bridge. She was just short of her 12th birthday.

She had a quite large episode (it was a 'brain fart' to be honest) over the weekend and unusually for Cela this meant that she didn't want her tea and it took quite a while for her to come back to normal. She was a little bit under the weather on the Sunday, but ate breakfast and tea as normal. She ran around chasing 'nothing' while barking in the garden and generally wasn't too bad.

Monday, she came to work with me as normal, and was fine. On the way back from work to the car, she didn't pull as she has done in the past. I didn't think anything of it to be honest. Got home, out she whizzed with our other woof (Maddison) into the garden and then just came back in, again, as normal.

When Michelle was about to get home, Cela decided that she wanted a drink, so up she got, plodded (she never really ran to the water bowl) and seemed to stumble a bit as she had a drink. She then decided to lay down and when Michelle came through the door, she didn't do her normal greeting.

Well, to cut a long story short, she decided it was time. There is no way that either Michelle or myself will ever let one of our animals be in pain and if they tell us the time is now, then we will always do the right thing. However hard it hurts!

It was a horrible drive over to the vets, knowing that we would be coming back without her. I can't fault the vets, they got us in within 30 minutes couldn't be more caring. It's been a hard year for us animal wise. We started 2023 with 5 pets, have recently added 2 more, yet today, we only have 4!

Cela had 9 wonderful years with us, came to work with me every day for all that time, and even though she was a GSD, she was scared of her own shadow, and if a worm farted in Worlingham, she would hide.

She passed over Rainbow Bridge just after 18.30 on Monday 20th August and will be missed by all who loved her.

Windows 11 update could cause SSD/Drive issues .....

Yes, you did read the heading right. There has been a few issues over the past few weeks that a couple of updates for Windows 11 can cause an issue with your SSD (or possibly HDD) having a bit of a hissy-fit and causing crashes/blue-screens etc., and in some cases data corruption or loss! You need to check to see if you have update KB5063878 or KB5062660 (Preview) and if you have either of these, then uninstall them! Once you have uninstalled them, you also need to pause Windows updates because if you don't, the update will be downloaded and installed again. JayzTwoCents on Youtube has done a couple of videos about this, and they are worth a watch. Video - 19th August  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlY2QjP_-9s) Video - 30th August  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbFIUu_7LIc) If you are running Windows 10, then as far as I can find out, you are safe from the update(s) that are causing this issue. One of the possible causes of the issue is if you are trying to copy large am...

Is Windows 10 really not going to be supported after October 14th 2025?

The answer to this, is yes and no! Officially Microsoft is stopping support for Windows 10 on 14th October this year (2025), and have been telling people to upgrade to Windows 11 or buy a new PC/Laptop for a while - whilst this is good for retailers that sell new PC/Laptops, it really isn't good for the environment! There are probably millions of PCs that are perfect in other aspects, but because they don't meet the requirements of Windows 11, they are meant to consigned to the bin, and I for one am not going to tell my customers that the perfectly good PC is now no longer usable! Just because Microsoft are no longer going to support Windows 10 with security updates etc., it doesn't mean that the PC is going to stop overnight (think of a Model T Ford - not been built by Ford for many many years, but put fuel in it and you can still drive it!) So what options do we all have (if we have a Windows 10 PC): Do nothing - not really recommended as the PC will become open to securi...

Windows 10 is no longer supported ..... PANIC!

Hang on, there is no need to Panic! Yes, from today (at time of writing/14th October 2025), Microsoft will no longer support security/feature updates for Windows 10.......  But they will, well sort of. The Extended Security Update (ESU) is a option that we have to extended the security updates for another year (well, until 13th October 2026). And depending on where you live, this may even be free! According to Microsoft, this will keep your Windows 10 updated with any security patches but will not make any feature updates. To enrol in the ESU, go to settings, Update & Security and you should see an Enrol Now option, click on that and follow the instruction. Once enrolled, your Windows 10 will continue to get any security updates/patches until 13th October 2026. What happens after then, well that is something only Microsoft know - they might continue the updates but at a charge who knows? The thing to remember is that your PC will not stop working even if you don't sign up for t...
